Jebby wins at Borrowdale
In a race that he has made his own in the last few years (8 wins in 8 years!!) Simon Booth had to settle for 4th at the 2009 edition of the Borrowdale fell race. The victory in this classic race went to form-man Rob Jebb, chased home to a mere 50 seconds by Borrowdale’s Ben Bardsley.
Borrowdale is another one of those races that commands a Billy Bland course record that may never be beaten (an incredible 2hrs 34 mins!), however Saturday’s damp and cool conditions were never going to produce fast times. Mercia’s Pete vale produced a storming run in third, with Booth in fourth and Morgan Donnelly in fifth.
The women’s race was a less close affair with Clywdian’s Mary Gille making the long trip north worthwhile, winning by almost 7 minutes from Nicky Spinks, Hazel Robinson in third made up the podium.
There were a tremendous 301 finishers in this tough ‘long’ 17 mile race that takes in 6500ft of climbing. Full results on the Borrowdale site now, images to follow.
