Brits raid at Annecime
The 5th Annecime ultra trail and mountain race took place on Saturday in the amazing surroundings of Lac d’Annecy, France. With races across 80km of Alpine trails the racing was highly competitive in this most beautiful of locations…
British-based Saab Salomon Outdoor Team sent a hefty squad of raiders to the race, as part of their European excursions to the Dolomites for their summer team camp, and then on to the Canazei European Skyrunning Championships taking place this weekend (17-19 July).
Part of this plan was for yours truly to be part of one of the two teams entered! (A full personal account will follow later this week…) So, the emphasis was on fun (right?!). Well suffice to say that after 80km of tough, hot mountainous terrain we somehow managed to win. Though the second leg excursions and somewhat slow running that I carried out were still not enough for the team to be beaten! For the record the Team was Ricky Lightfoot on 1, mois on 2, Andy Symonds on 3 and British champ Rob Hope on 4.

Second place was also taken by SSOT members Tom Owens, team manager Tim Lloyd, Matt Gilbert and John Heneghan on the anchor leg.
The second placed Saab Salomon team
French mountain specialists Pascal Giguet and Frederique Rossignol were convincing winners in the men’s and women’s Solo 80km races, with Giguet crossing the line looking as though he hadn’t even covered 8 never mind 80km!
