John Heneghan wins Inter Counties
On a warm day in Kendal, Pudsey and Bramley athlete John Heneghan won the 2009 Inter-Counties fell championships. Heneghan was a convincing winner, taking the title by over a minute from the super-consistent Morgan Donnelly.
The Hutton Roof Fell Race hosted the champs over a 7m course, with 345 runners traveling from all over the UK to compete. Heneghan couldn’t get close to Mark Croasdale’s 1991 record of 43.38, however his time of 45.50 was very quick considering the fact it was a championship race and generally these situations produce ‘tactical’ races.
Olivia Walwyn defeated Katie Ingram by almost two minutes to take the women’s title, with Three Peaks winner Anna Lupton in third. Again Walwyn’s time was super-quick – to be just over a minute and a half behind a course record held by Sarah Rowell is impressive.
