After the first round in the clouds of Costa Rica, this year’s Skyrunner® World Series comes to Europe for round 2 – the first of three races in Spain, Andorra and Italy, with the racing head back across the Pond to Colorado, before returning to Ben Nevis in September.

Sixteen races in fourteen countries across four continents involving 6,000 competitors from 31 countries. For the record, there are 27,000 metres vertical climb and 455 kilometres distance. That’s the sum of the 2009 Skyrunner® World Series, uniting the world’s strongest mountain runners in a unique high altitude circuit!

Contrary to what the local race website says round two is this Sunday (24) in the Basque Country at the Zegama Aizkorri Mendi Maratoia race. It is here that we should also see 2008 champion Kilian Jornet enter the fold.
