Final call for this weekend’s Moel Eilio race. It doesn’t seem to be on the FRA site, but it is definitely on! As publicised some weeks back it also has a new twist this year in the form of charitable status…

The aim of the 2009 event is increase cancer awareness, raise funds for Cancer Research and provide access to mountain running and walking to a wider audience.

Traditionally fell racing is a sport that entails close-knit events, run by enthusiasts and clubs. The races often take in some of the most beautiful parts of the British Isles, in unspoilt areas that make the runner feel at peace with the world. Where better then to have an event that encompasses all of these traditions and yet opens its doors to the young and old, walkers and runners – all for this most worthy of causes.

An article chronicling the drive behind this years race was recently published in local north Wales newspaper the Caernarfon and Denbigh Herald.

Registration for the race will start at 10.00am at the Heights Hotel in Llanberis. The sponsored walk will start at 11.00am and travel straight up and down Moel Eilio, a distance of some 5.5 miles. The main race will start at 1.00pm taking in Moel Eilio, Foel Gron, Foel Goch and Moel Cynghorion, with junior races at 1.10pm.

The event is kindly sponsored by Salomon, Pete Bland Sports, Cread Cyf. and legendary Llanberis outdoor shop Joe Brown. Sponsorship forms are available from the Joe Brown shops, the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon, The Heights in Llanberis or by contacting race organiser Jayne Lloyd via the Saab Salomon website, where you can also find full details of the race.

All are welcome to the 2009 Moel Eilio event, whether to watch or to compete, and donations can be made before and after the event at the Cancer Research website
