Fell racing round-up 4/5.04.09
This is what racing is all about
The hills were alive this weekend as all four Home nations and Ireland saw fell race action. With many of the top runners over in Northern Ireland at Slieve Bearnagh it was an opportunity for some new, and not so new winners around the country.
Scotland
One of the not-so-new winners was fell legend Colin Donnelly (Lochaber AC). He won the Knockfarrel race just outside of Strathpeffer, Scotland. Jacqui Higginbottom comfortably won the women’s race.
Knockfarrel results
Donnelly - as strong as ever
Wales
The Llantysilio Mountain Race and classic Llanbedr to Blaenavon took place on Saturday. Tim Davies and Andrea Roberts were leading man and women at Llantysilio, with Mark Palmer and Julie Davies winning the same classes at Blaenavon.
Reports and results over at the WFRA site. With some fantastic photos of Llantysilio by Alastair Tye, linking from the excellent Fellrunningpictures site.
Andrea Roberts (Eryri) - a strong 11th overall.
England
It was a very close tussle at the Pendle fell race, with Tom Addison beating long-time Pudsey runner Gary Devine. Lizzie Adams easily won the women’s race. Photos over at the Clayton-Le-Moors site
Pendle
Results of the Pendle, Askham and Exe to Axe races can be found on the FRA site
Ireland
The first race of the 2009 Leinster championships took place at Black Mountain on Sunday. Gerry Brady delivers a great report on wins for Peter O’Farrell (Rathfarnham) and Mags Greenan (Clonliffe). Super-vet Greenan held off her younger contemporaries to win the ladies class and to come in 15th overall from the 56 runners.
