Fell racing - weekend preview
Wreckin' on the Wrekin
Plenty of races to choose from around the UK this weekend (28th/29th March) for all you mountain goats. In Wales the racing is at all points from the Pen-Y-Cerrig Calch in the south to the Llangyhafel Loop in the north. Across the border the classic Wrekin Fell race also takes place.
Details on all of these can be found over at the WFRA site.
In England the big one is the Edale Skyline, 21 miles and 4,500feet of climbing await. 4-time winner Lloyd Taggart is in form with 3 wins to his name already this year, and should be the man to beat once again. The Causey Pike, Midgley Moor and Doctor’s Gate races also take place this weekend. More info at the FRA
Expect the unexpected at Edale, weather-wise
It’s a bit quiet in Scotland, and in Northern Ireland they are saving themselves for next weekend’s Round 1 of the British Fell Championships at Slieve Bearnagh.
Finally, over in Ireland the Wicklow Mountain Half-Marathon takes place. The IMRA site describes it as:
The inaugural DEBRA Ireland Wicklow Mountains Half-Marathon has been designed to test your stamina and fitness. This race is like no other; over 1,000 metres of climbing and 21km tough mountain trails. The route will take you through beautiful valleys and along remote tracks high in the mountains. The views stretch along the East Coast over the Irish Sea and deep into Irelands largest upland area- the Wicklow Mountains
The Wicklow 1/2 takes in beautiful Lough Tay
Good luck whatever you are up to…
