Mo says 'sell-off' is a "disgrace"

Farah - maturing with every week

With each week that passes it seems that Mo Farah is becoming a bit of a talisman for UK endurance running. No sooner has he raced to the UK record and European 3000m gold, than he is fighting the fight against school playing field sell-offs.

Course he has a point. It seems that even Sport England cant stop the rot, after 21 pleas were ignored a by Government intent on selling this precious land in 2006/7. He wasn’t mincing his words either at his Aviva cross-country master-class at Bushy Park in London, given to a dozen promising junior middle-distance runners ahead of the English Schools Cross-Country Championships this Saturday.

Speaking to the Telegraph.co.uk he said:

It’s a disgrace when this happens. We will never get those fields back. We need as many fields as possible to play in. How can that be the right kind of message to send out when we are trying to encourage as many kids as possible to get involved in sport with the Olympic Games on our doorstep and only 3½ years away?
