Steph Twell took her first senior title at Saturday’s Inter-Counties XC champs in Nottingham, which doubled as the trials race for the World XC. Frank Tickner was aiming to carry on where he left off in London at the National XC, however Andy Vernon had different thoughts and overturned Tickner by 3 seconds

Speaking afterwards Twell said:

I thought it was a fantastic race, I felt strong throughout relaxed front-running a great stepping stone towards Jordan, I kept pressing on over the hills to gain those extra seconds

Andy Vernon has obviously timed his winter to perfection, ans was clearly pleased after his reversal of the results some two weeks ago:

Frank was pushing on over the final stages and I was working hard to stay with him – but I knew he would be trying to do that to get away – I just held on and in the home straight I was able to go for the sprint
