Simpson - big talent

The Saab Salomon Outdoor Team have once again shown vision – and the determination to build a great team of mountain runners – by signing mountain running star Robbie Simpson. Still only 17, Robbie has taken the Scottish scene by storm in 2009, winning 4 races in the last couple of months.

He has also beaten many experienced, international mountain racers such as Prasad Prasad into the bargain.

Having been in the sport of running for 5 years, and fell running for only 2 of those, Simpson is a real prospect and as part of the Saab Salomon global set up Robbie will get the opportunity to travel Europe and test himself against some of the world’s best mountain racers on a regular basis.

“I’m delighted to be part of the Saab Salomon Outdoor team”, said an excited Simpson speaking earlier this week.

I think it’s a really good opportunity and am looking forward racing and training with the team. It’s great to be included in the same line-up as some of the top hill runners in Britain and beyond. Hopefully I will continue to improve and get some good results for the team.

Robbie’s goals are already well set for the season, and he shows great focus when stating:

In 2009 I’m hoping to do more hill races including some Scottish and British champs. I’m also hoping to run for GB at the European and World championships and if I’ve got anything left then compete at the Commonwealth championships in Keswick. Winning the junior home international is also one of my targets

Tim Lloyd - visionary

Speaking about the latest Team addition Tim Lloyd said:

Robbie Simpson is clearly a very talented athlete with massive potential. It has always been my intention to support mountain running in GB as much as possible, this year for the first time I have looked much more to bringing in new talent in the hope that we can help them reach their ultimate targets in the years ahead. If Robbie continues to improve in the way that he is at present, he will undoubtedly be one of the best mountain runners we have seen in recent years
