Artistic XC course design from the father's of fashion
Great article on Italy’s big XC race – the Cinque Mulini – over on spikesmag.com “It is known as one of the world’s greatest cross country races. Athletes scramble over banks and through ditches…during five grueling 2km laps”.
Yet for all the Cinque Mulini’s colourful flavour its iconic image remains its watermills, which the athletes run through as part of this unique cross country test.Distance running legends such as Kenenisa Bekele, John Ngugi, Paul Tergat, Grete Waitz and Khalid Skah have all triumphed in past races. Olympic champions such as Haile Gebrselassie, Lasse Viren, Seb Coe and Derartu Tulu have competed as well.
Spikesmag calls it bonkers, we would call it iconic and we wish we were there to witness the race and drink in the amazing Italian atmosphere. Britain’s Steph Twell aims to add her name to the list of winners and fits the race into what has been a hectic winter for her – with UK National champs and the World XC still to come! Let’s hope she is given a little rest by Mick Woods before she hits the track season…
