MST - Outstanding performance of the Year
For me this wasn’t a difficult choice, it had to be the world of marathon running which took the accolades. This run in 2008 stood head and shoulders above all others and once again cemented Haile’s name at the top of the all-time list of greatest runners.
To break his achievement down it’s sub-3 minutes for a kilometre, 42 times! Can he go faster? Well, of course he can, however with new-star Sammy on the verge of greatness, and Kenenisa setting his sights on road, the next few years will, I believe, see a resurgence in interest in the marathon on a global scale and see the ‘world best’ tumble towards that magical 2-hour figure.
