Add to this last year’s World XC Champs in the same city bagging an award plus the announcement of the Irish and Italian teams for next week’s European XC Champs and you’ll see that the cross-country media is starting to hot-up this winter…
T. Bekele, Linet Masai, Jepkorir – Alcobendas unveils formidable line-up
Alcobendas, Spain – Ethiopia’s Tariku Bekele and the Kenyan pair of Linet Masai and Eunice Jepkorir will be the marquee athletes at the 27th ‘Cross Internacional de la Constitución’ – an EA Permit Meeting – to be held in Alcobendas, on the outskirts of Madrid on Sunday (7). These fast-improving African stars should provide a great spectacle on a demanding and undulating circuit.

World Cross Country wins Award
The IAAF World Cross Country Championships won the Event of the Year Award at the Sunday Mail/sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards 2008 last night in Glasgow (Thursday 4th December).
Last year's ultra-successful Championships bag another award
It was a duel that was supposed to happen 12 months ago on Spanish soil in Toro but an ill-timed groin injury robbed Britain’s Mo Farah of the chance to defend the SPAR European Cross Country Championships title he won in 2006.
Alan McCormack of Dundrum South Dublin athletic club heads up the Irish Men’s Senior Team for the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on December 14th, an event that Athletics Ireland will host in Santry, Dublin in 2009. This follows his win at the weekend in the Woodie’s DIY National Inter County Men’s senior championship.
Meucci, Romagnolo in Italian squad for Brussels
Former SPAR European Cross Country bronze medalist in U23 category Daniele Meucci will spearhead the Italian contingent at the Brussels meeting of the top European event on December 14.
Kipchoge vs Choge vs Tadese in Edinburgh
Edinburgh, UK- Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, the 2007 World and 2008 Olympic 5000m silver medallist, will be under serious pressure when attempting to regain the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country title at the beginning of the New Year.
