Euro hopefuls head for Sefton Park
Its crunch time for those athletes with Brussels aspirations as this Saturday sees the Euro XC trials take place in sunny Liverpool. As well as being round two of the McCain Cross Challenge series the event doubles-up as the official trial race for the European XC Champs in two weeks time.
With Mo Farah sitting this out the men’s race will be wide open. However, a little birdie tells MST that Farah’s training partner during his recent altitude trip to Ethiopia, Scott Overall, was flying. So with his lungs still bursting with all of that east African thin-air we reckon he could have the measure of his rivals this weekend.
It’s hard to see past Steph Twell in the women’s race, especially after her convincing win two weeks ago at the Gateshead opener of the UK’s premier cross country race series.
So, if you fancy a day out in this weekend (that doesn’t include shopping) head up to Liverpool’s Sefton Park for what should be a cracking day of cross-country. Racing gets underway at 11am, with women’s and men’s races starting at 1.20pm and 2.00pm respectively.
